Description |
In June of 1980, we were driving by an open garage and saw a wonderful carriage with a bicycle for the driver. We were opening a Christmas show and thought it would be a wonderful addition. The owner said, “I can’t sell this. Elvis rode in it during the making of the movie, “It Happened at the World’s Fair.” We asked how he knew it was Elvis’ carriage and he told us the history. He bought it from a man who acquired it from a movie effects auction in 1962. The man was from Spokane and didn’t have room for the pedal-cab, so he sold it at another auction where the current owner got it. Intrigued, we told him that if he ever changed his mind, we would like first chance to buy it. Occasionally we would stop by to ask if he had changed his mind. His health was deteriorating and one summer evening when we stopped, the owner told us he would sell. The carriage was in terrible shape from sitting in a carport for so long and we began sandblasting, painting, and intricate upholstery work on the carriage top and seats, etc. By the time the restoration was completed, we had invested quite a bit of money in the pedal-cab. Now it is in perfect condition with lipstick red interior and white high gloss paint finish. The springs and body are just as they were and everything else is restored to like-new condition. All restoration work was done by experts in their fields. We’ve used it in a holiday parade and in the filming of a commercial for A Victorian Country Christmas. Since that time, it has been housed in our warehouse with an occasional appearance for photo shots and television promotional work. We are a small production company (check us out at www.lp-productions.com) with a full schedule and the warehouse is too full for a piece that we use so little. We know it has considerable value. “It Happened at the World’s Fair” starred Elvis Presley and was filmed in Seattle in 1960 just prior to the opening of the World’s Fair and featured the grounds, Space Needle, etc. You can see Elvis riding in it if you rent the movie. Starting bid is $50,000 plus crating and shipping. The highest bidder will be given the pedal-cab and a copy (VHS tape) of the movie that is now out of print. A contract will be completed by our attorney and delivery will be within 60 days following the completion of the contract and date of purchase.
